Olli is a self-driving mini bus equipped with the cloud-based cognitive computing capability of an IBM Watson computer. Through this technology, Olli can learn from high volumes of transportation data, produced by more than 30 sensors embedded throughout the vehicle. The sensors, which include 3-D cameras, GPS and passenger counters, are intended to help engage users and build passenger trust with the vehicle.
Making autonomous vehicles a less daunting concept is not the only ground that experimental auto manufacturer Local Motors is breaking with Olli. The electric bus, which can carry up to 12 people, is a 3-D printed design and can be printed and assembled in around 11 hours.
