Hyperloop is a high-speed transport propulsion system set to revolutionise transport. Hyperloop will move passengers and cargo in pods through a steel tube at high speed. Using vacuum technology, the pods will be floating on air and able to sustain high speeds not possible with wheeled transport. Racing along at 700 miles per hour, a journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco could take 30 minutes.
First proposed by tech billionaire Elon Musk, the system concept has been open-sourced and is currently in the development stage with several companies. One leader in this process, Hyperloop One, is proposing versions of the technology that can go both under the ground and under the sea. It has recently completed testing of the technology in the Nevada desert and forecasts the possibility of hyperloop passenger transport by 2021.
