Mat Hunter

Mat Hunter is director of strategy at the Central Research Laboratory, the UK’s first purpose-built facility for entrepreneurial makers.

The CRL is supporting a new generation of manufactured-product-led innovators, helping them get to market and grow successful businesses. 

Previously, Mat was chief design officer at the Design Council, where he led the Design Challenges programme, seed-funding and supporting startups to generate sustainable impact for pressing social issues. 

Mat started his career in Silicon Valley as an interaction designer, working for world-renowned design innovator IDEO after graduating from Central St Martin’s School of Art and the Royal College of Art.

He is adjunct professor at Imperial College Business School, senior visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art, Honorary Fellow at Arts University Bournemouth and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts.
