Clive Grinyer is process improvement director for Premier Banking at Barclays. He joined the Barclays Design Office as director of customer experience in 2013 and drives the design and development of customer services and innovations.
Clive has worked for innovation consultancy IDEO in the US and UK and was founder of design company Tangerine (along with Sir Jonathan Ive, head of design at Apple).
A strong advocate for in-house design teams, he set up Samsung’s European design studio, was head of design for Orange France Telecom in London and Paris and headed design for TAG McLaren Audio.
He was director of design for the Design Council, where he created programmes taking designers into manufacturing and technology companies.
Before joining Barclays he designed digital customer experiences for Cisco’s major retail, public sector and financial services customers. Projects included interactive installations for John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Tesco, and working on digital services for the cities of Barcelona and Amsterdam.
He is a passionate advocate of customer experience, technology usability and design methodologies in both business and public services, writes and speaks at conferences on design, innovation and technology, and is the author of the book Smart Products.
Clive graduated from Central St Martins School of Art and Design in London, is a trustee of the Royal Society of Arts and of Merton Music Foundation, an advisor to the All Party Design and Innovation Group, Visiting Professor at Glasgow School of Art and external examiner at the Royal College of Art.
